Liam Gallagher fell for her
It is hard enough when your ex-girlfriend ends up
with your best friend. But when your ex ends up on the arm of your arch-enemy.
Well, it’s not difficult to imagine how Robbie Williams must be feeling.
Last week the enfant terrible of pop found out that his ex-fiancee
Nicole Appleton, who he split up with in January 1999 but to whom he is still
close, is enjoying a romance with Liam Gallagher, the lead singer of Oasis.
Nicole, of the band All Saints, commented on her latest love affair
last week, saying: “I am really into this relationship. He’s knocked
me out and I’m very keen. It’s early days but I haven’t felt
like this for a long time.” She has known Liam for some time and their
close friendship apparently once prompted Liam’s soon-to-be ex-wife Patsy
Kensit, to demand Liam keep his distance from Nicole.
Robbie and Liam
first met in the summer of 1995, when Robbie, then still a member of Take That,
popped up at Glastonbury for a weekend of fun and frolics in the Gallagher
brothers’ company. They did not stay buddies for long, however, with the
Oasis camp throwing down the gauntlet in what has turned into a longrunning
verbal duel. Liam reignited the feud at the beginning of this year, boasting
that he could deck Robbie with a single punch.
When asked by a magazine
how she looked back on her romance with Robbie, Nicole said: “We were the
hottest couple in England! I thought it was great.”
But since
splitting with the Take That member turned successful solo artist, she has
dated Hornblower star Ioan Gruffudd and Gavin Rossdale, the singer of Bush.
None of those liaisons, though, will have wounded Robbie in the same way as her
