ELIZABETH MAJOR
MARRIES
LUKE SALTER

A traditional ceremony in a country church for the ex-prime minister’s daughter and her longtime love

Britain’s former prime minister John Major looked proud as he gave away his daughter Elizabeth to her longterm boyfriend Luke Salter in a country church brimful of guests and fragrant with cream and white roses, lilies and trailing greenery. “After 28 years, I shall miss Elizabeth Major very much, but I shall love Elizabeth Salter every bit as much,” he said in his speech later.

His new son-in-law, who’s a medical student, said in his own speech that he couldn’t tell guests how Elizabeth responded when he finally popped the question because, when she saw the ring box, “she had the diamond on her finger so fast that I never had a chance to ask her!” Prominent at the wedding were the Majors’ son, James, with his wife Emma Noble, who is expecting their first child. “It was just as emotional as our wedding,” said James. “My sister looked beautiful, and they go so well togehter - definitely a match made in heaven.” But it was best man Darren Gale who capped the speech-making with his toast: “To Elizabeth and Luke: may they be modern enough to survive the times, and old-fashioned enough to last forever.”
