Meghan Markle's official titles are The Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel, but her "favorite title" is mom. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's mom gushed about being a mother on the second episode of her podcast from Lemonada Media, Confessions of a Female Founder.
Meghan pointed out to her guest Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and Moms First, that she has the title of mom. "Just like me," the Duchess said. "Favorite title. Love it."
"I love being a mom so much. It's my favorite thing," Meghan added. "It is the thing where you're like, ‘Oh my gosh, I just need a break, I just need a minute, I just need a minute.’ And the second that you step into the room, you go... Let me scroll through pictures of them endlessly on my phone. My husband is like, ‘My love, can you just give yourself a minute? Why don't you go work out? Why don't you go take a bath?’ I'm like, 'I know, but I just want to cuddle.' It's the parenting paradigm where it is so full on and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Meghan and Prince Harry welcomed their first child, Prince Archie, in 2019, and their second, Princess Lilibet, in 2021.
The Duke and Duchess were given their titles by Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth on their wedding day in 2018. In Meghan's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, the As ever founder spoke about her family's name. She told pal Mindy Kaling "it’s so funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now."
The Duchess explained: "You have kids, and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children. And that feels so- I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, 'This is our family name. Our little family name.'”
Ahead of the premiere of With Love, Meghan, the Duchess opened up to PEOPLE about "Sussex" having a deeper meaning now that she is a mom. “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” Meghan said. “I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”
The Duchess noted that it “is part of our love story.” She said, “I think as the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’ I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex."
