Queen Silvia of Sweden is recovering from surgery. Svensk Damtidning reported on April 4 that Her Majesty, 81, underwent foot surgery earlier this week.

The Swedish Royal Court's Head of Information, Margareta Thorgren, told the outlet (translated to english): "At the beginning of the week, the Queen underwent foot surgery, a so-called Hallux Valgus."

"This means that the Queen is recovering and resting at Drottningholm after this operation. The operation has gone well and the Queen is doing well," Margareta added.

Her Majesty currently has no engagements listed on the official program until the week after Easter. On April 28, the Queen is scheduled to attend the World Childhood Foundation Executive Committee Meeting in Stockholm. Prior to her surgery, Silvia's most recent official appearance was on Monday, March 31. That day, she and her daughter Princess Madeleine attended a World Childhood Foundation Board Meeting at the Royal Palace. In a ceremony at the palace, the Queen was awarded a medal by the Royal Patriotic Society for her work with the World Childhood Foundation.

Silvia founded World Childhood Foundation in 1999. Her younger daughter Madeleine serves at the honorary deputy co-chair of the foundation, whose mission is to inspire, promote, and develop solutions to end sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence against children.

Silvia has been married to King Carl XVI Gustaf since 1976. Their Majesties have three kids—Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine—and nine grandchildren: Princess Estelle, Prince Oscar, Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, Prince Julian, Princess Ines, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne

The King and Queen's ninth grandchild Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, who is Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's fourth child, was born this past February. The Prince Couple seemingly honored their respective mothers with two of their baby girl's middle names: Sofia's mother's name is Marie Hellqvist, while Carl Philip's mother is Silvia.

Back in 2018, the proud grandmother described her grandchildren to the Swedish media outlet TT (via Royal Central) as "the dessert of life." In the same interview, according to Royal Central, the Swedish Queen said at the time that she did not have plans to retire. She's quoted as once saying (via Royal Central), “We will continue as long as we can.”
