What the Princess of Wales had to say about Prince William's look

The Prince of Wales has previously said that his daughter wasn't a fan the first time

The Princess of Wales has commented on her husband Prince William's beard. While chatting with section commanders at Wellington Barracks, Catherine said, via HOLA! USA's sister brand HELLO!, “These trends come and go."

"I was saying to my husband, I'm not sure how long he’s going to keep his for," the Princess added.

The Prince of Wales has been sporting a beard since last year. He first showed off his facial hair in August in a video congratulating the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team. While he was spotted looking clean-shaven two weeks later, he stepped out in early September with a beard once again.

The heir to the throne has previously revealed that his daughter Princess Charlotte was not a fan of his beard the first time. Back in November, William shared, "I got floods of tears the first time I grew a beard, so I had to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second and I convinced her it was going to be okay."

One of the royal couple's former aides Jason Knauf, who's described as one of William's "closest confidantes," spoke about the future King's beard in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia last month"I love it. I think it's great," Jason said. "But I've talked to him about it, or tried to talk to him about it. He's like, 'It's here. I have a beard, you know, no further conversation.'"

As for whether the Princess of Wales liked it, Jason answered, "If she didn't like it, it wouldn't be there. I could tell you that."

Catherine's remarks about William's beard were made during her visit to Wellington Barracks on St. Patrick's Day. The Princess visited the regiment to meet with soldiers and veterans, and attend the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Her Royal Highness is Colonel of the Irish Guards, a role she took over from Prince William in 2022.

Monday marked the Princess' first time back at the parade since 2023. Catherine, who underwent major abdominal surgery in January 2024, missed last year's event. Following her surgery it was announced that the Princess would be unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter that year. Five days after St. Patrick's Day 2024, it was revealed that Her Royal Highness had started a course of preventative chemotherapy in late February. She has since completed her treatment and is in remission.

"Happy St Patrick's Day! Great to be back to join the Irish Guards for their annual St Patrick's Day parade here at Wellington Barracks," photos from Catherine's engagement on Monday were captioned. "Proud to be your Colonel, and celebrate 125 years of the regiment with you today."
