Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark reunited with their son Crown Prince Christian over the weekend. Their Majesties and their younger children, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, visited Christian at the Guard Hussar Regiment barracks on Saturday, March 8.
The Danish Royal House shared photos from the 19-year-old Crown Prince's reunion with his family, including a snapshot of King Frederik hugging his firstborn and one of Christian's sister Princess Isabella trying on gear.
Alongside the photos, the Royal House wrote (translated to English): "For over a month, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has been serving as a conscript at the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse. The company's families were today invited to a visit day at the barracks, where the Royal Family had the opportunity to experience the Crown Prince in his new surroundings and meet the rest of his fellow recruits 🪖."
"It is a long tradition that members of the Royal House serve in the Armed Forces. His Majesty the King has himself completed military service, and in 1988 the King was, among other things, a platoon commander at the Guard Hussar Regiment," the Royal House added.
Christian arrived at the Guard Hussar Regiment (Gardehusarregimentet) early last month to begin his military service. Billed Bladet has previously reported that the Crown Prince will be serving at the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse for four months.
The heir to the Danish throne graduated from high school last June. Months after his graduation, Christian traveled to East Africa to begin an extended stay. During his stay in Africa, the future King was involved in the daily operation of two farms, which included practical and administrative tasks and gave Christian insight into local nature protection, per the Royal House.
The Crown Prince reflected on his time in Africa in a personal message shared by the Royal House in November. "I have been in East Africa for almost three months. Everyday life down here is something completely different than at home. The food, the culture, the climate, the wildlife, the tasks and the people make it an experience I will never forget," he penned (translated to English). "In recent weeks I've been working with nature preservation. I'm both supervising and registering animals in the bush and taking care of the office on the farm."
Christian also shared that he got "really close to the wild animals" in East Africa and learned a lot about life there, played soccer with locals and helped build new houses for employees. The Crown Prince admitted in his message that he was "starting to look forward to returning home to the family in Denmark" and was "looking forward to new challenges," adding, "In February I'll start working as a military officer at the Guardhouse Regiment in Slagelse."
Christian, who is first in line to the Danish throne, is the eldest of Queen Mary and King Frederik's four children. He became the Crown Prince in January 2024 following his father's ascension to the throne.
