King Abdullah II of Jordan was at the hospital two days after welcoming his second grandchild. The Royal Hashemite Court announced on Feb. 18 that His Majesty, 63, had a "successful minor surgery" on Tuesday to treat an incisional hernia.
In a statement, the court said: "His Majesty King Abdullah II underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday to treat an incisional hernia at the King Hussein Medical Centre."
"His Majesty was discharged from hospital after the simple procedure and will resume his daily schedule tomorrow, Wednesday," the court added. "The Royal Hashemite Court wishes His Majesty continued good health and wellbeing."
Day before the procedure, the King and Queen Rania's second granddaughter, Amina, was born at the Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II Hospital in Aqaba. Amina is Princess Iman—the King and Queen's eldest daughter—and her husband Jameel Alexander Thermiotis' first child.
King Abdullah celebrated his granddaughter's arrival on Feb. 16, writing on X (translated to English), "I congratulate my dear Iman and dear Jameel on the birth of their daughter, Amina. We thank God for His countless blessings, and we ask Him to protect her and make her one of the righteous," adding, "God bless you, Grandpa."
A photo of His Majesty holding his newborn grandchild accompanied the message. Queen Rania also shared photos of the royal family's new addition on her personal Instagram. "My darling Iman is now a mother. We’re grateful and overjoyed to meet Amina, our family’s newest blessing," Her Majesty captioned the pictures. "Congratulations Jameel and Iman – may God bless you and your precious little girl."
Rania additionally shared a video of members of the royal family meeting baby Amina, including her son Crown Prince Hussein and his wife Princess Rajwa's baby girl, Princess Iman. Six-month-old Iman is the King and Queen's first grandchild. She born back in August.
Hussein marked the birth of his niece with photos of his daughter Iman and Amina on his Instagram. "Welcome to the family, Amina!" the Crown Prince wrote in the caption. "May you be a source of joy for your parents and a loving sister and lifelong companion to my daughter."
Amina was born less than a month after Rania revealed that her 28-year-old daughter was expecting. On Jan. 24, the Queen posted a snapshot of Princess Iman showing off her baby bump in a picture with Jameel. Alongside the photo, Rania wrote: "Two is a couple, three is a blessing ❤️."
