Sofia and Carl Philip's first daughter was born on Feb. 7 at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm. The Office of the Marshal of the Realm announced the baby's arrival in a statement, which read (translated to English): "The Office of the Marshal of the Realm is pleased to announce that HRH Princess Sofia, on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:10 p.m., gave birth to a healthy and prosperous daughter at Danderyd Hospital."

The newborn is the royal couple's fourth child, joining big brothers Prince Alexander, 8, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 3. Months after Sofia's pregnancy was announced, she told Vogue Scandinavia that she "always, always, always dreamt of a family." The Princess said, "It’s one of my biggest goals in life. Not everyone has that – I had that."

“Both me and my husband come from a family of five – with three kids – so we thought that that would be a good number, and we felt quite satisfied with that," she continued. "But, gratefully, there’s a bonus on the way. We feel very humble and grateful. It was maybe not in the plan, but now we are very, very excited. Especially the kids.”

Sofia also shared, "I have a life that I’m very grateful for, I have a family that I’m very grateful for,” adding, “I actually feel I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in life."

Her and Carl Philip's children are members of the Swedish royal family, but not the royal house. King Carl XVI Gustaf removed his son Prince Carl Philip and daughter Princess Madeleine's respective children from the royal house in 2019. At the time, Sofia and Carl Philip said (translated to English): "We see this as positive as Alexander and Gabriel will have freer choices in life. They will retain their prince titles and their duchies, Södermanland and Dalarna, which we value and are proud of. Our family has strong connections to both landscapes and we maintain our commitment there. We will continue to focus on our heart issues and commitment. We will also continue to support the King and the Crown Princess - our future head of state - and participate in the King's activities in the way we wish.”
