Prince Harry will be joined by members of the Danish royal family at his upcoming Invictus Games. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark are confirmed to be attending the sporting event in Canada. According to the Danish Royal House's official program, King Frederik's younger brother and sister-in-law will be at the Invictus Games on Valentine's day, Feb. 14, and on Feb. 15.
Like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie reside in the United States. In 2023, the Danish royal couple moved to Washington, D.C., where Joachim works as the defence industry attaché at the Embassy of Denmark.
The Invictus Games won’t be the first time that Harry and Joachim have met. The Duke of Sussex paid a two-day visit to Denmark in 2017. During his trip, he and Joachim visited the Danish Veteran Centre in Copenhagen. The British royal family's Instagram account wrote at the time that Harry and the Danish Prince visited a "project which supports veterans of the Danish Armed Forces" and "TRH were introduced to the Centre for Military Physical Training and briefed on the Danish approach to veteran rehabilitation."
The Danish Royal House's Instagram account shared a photo of Harry and Joachim from the visit, writing (translated to English), "HRH Prince Joachim participated this morning together with HRH Prince Harry in a meeting with Danish participants in the Invictus Games at Svanemøllens Kaserne in Copenhagen."
The 2025 Invictus Games are taking place in Vancouver and Whistler from Feb. 8 to Feb. 16. This year marks the seventh Invictus Games and the first time that the sporting event will include winter sports. Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to Canada last February for Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025's One Year to Go celebrations and participating nations' Winter Training Camp.
The Duke of Sussex announced back in 2022 that the 2025 games would be taking place in Canada. “As Invictus continues to adapt and evolve, I am extremely excited to announce that the Invictus Games Foundation has selected Canada to host the first-ever Winter Hybrid Games in 2025,” Harry said in a statement. “The Invictus Games Vancouver-Whistler 2025 will offer a global platform to expand the range and profile of winter adaptive sports. With deep respect, I’m also pleased to share that the Games in Canada will be held in partnership with the First Nations, in the spirit of truth and reconciliation with indigenous communities.”
Chris Martin is set to perform at the Opening Ceremony for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 on Feb. 8, along with Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado and Roxane Bruneau.
