Why Prince William had to cancel a royal engagement

It has been postponed

The Prince of Wales had to pull out of an engagement on Thursday. His Royal Highness was scheduled to visit the Army Air Corps regiment in Wattisham, Suffolk, but the engagement had to be postponed because of the weather.

In a statement (via HOLA! USA's sister brand HELLO!), Kensington Palace said, "With regret, this engagement has been postponed as a result of poor weather, which would have significantly restricted the planned programme."

"The Prince of Wales sends his sincere apologies to those who he had been due to meet and hopes to reschedule his visit at the earliest convenience," the palace added.

According to HELLO!, the heir to the throne was due to arrive in a Wildcast Helicopter, and was expected to meet service personnel from across both units and observe elements of regular training.

Prince William is Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. His father King Charles officially handed over the role to him last May. Thursday's engagement would have marked William's second public engagement of the year. His first one took place on Wednesday. The Prince traveled to Birmingham on Jan. 15 to attend the inaugural Emergency and Critical Care Conference. The conference came the day after his wife, the Princess of Wales, made her first public appearance of 2025. On Tuesday, Catherine visited The Royal Marsden, which is where she received chemotherapy treatment last year.

"I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year," Her Royal Highness penned in a personal message after her visit. "My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional." In her message, the Princess of Wales also revealed that she is in remission and focussed on recovery.
