Meghan Markle kicked off 2025 with a return to social media. The Duchess of Sussex officially launched her new Instagram account @meghan on New Year's Day.
For her first post, the mom of two shared a reel showing her running on a beach, dressed all in white, and writing 2025 in the sand. The video was filmed by her husband, Prince Harry, at a beach near the couple's home in Montecito, California.
Within the first hour of the account being officially launched, Meghan garnered over 130, 000 followers, including Mindy Kaling, Zoe Saldana, Serena Williams, Kris Jenner and Chrissy Teigen.
HOLA! USA understands that the Duchess is excited to return to social media as a way to reconnect with communities and share updates on projects that she's been working on, and she hopes to authentically share moments of joy and inspiration from her life, while continuing to advocate for safer, more positive online experiences, particularly for young people and families.
Page Six reported last year that Meghan had secured the @meghan Instagram handle. The outlet was told at the time that the Duchess got the account back in 2022. That year, in an interview with The Cut, she asked interviewer Allison P. Davis, “Do you want to know a secret?” “I’m getting back … on Instagram," Meghan said.
The Duchess had a personal Instagram account before marrying into the British royal family. In January of 2018, Kensington Palace said (via HELLO! ) that Meghan was “grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years,” but made the decision to close them “as she has not used these accounts for some time.”
Meghan and Harry launched their now-defunct Instagram account @SussexRoyal in April of 2019, and the Duchess launched her @americanrivieraorchard last March.
