Princess Sofia of Sweden is celebrating a milestone birthday this month. The royal turns 40 on Friday, Dec. 6. Ahead of her big day, Sofia spoke with Vogue Scandinavia for a cover story set against the backdrop of her childhood village Älvdalen and the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
Discussing how she planned to celebrate her 40th birthday in an accompanying video, Sofia laughed, "I'm gonna be quite highly pregnant."
"So I think a bigger birthday party will wait a little bit. So probably just, you know, with my closest friends and family," she added.
The Swedish Princess and her husband, Prince Carl Philip, are expecting their fourth child together. The Swedish Royal Court announced Sofia's pregnancy in early September, revealing at the time that the royal baby's "birth is expected to take place in February 2025."
Sofia and Carl Philip are already parents to three sons. The Prince Couple welcomed their first child, Prince Alexander, in 2016. Their second son, Prince Gabriel, was born in 2017, followed by their third son, Prince Julian, in 2021. Days after Julian's birth, Sofia wrote on Instagram (translated to English), “Life has given me not just one but four beautiful princes❤.”
The Princess has been married to King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia's son since 2015. Recalling her first encounter with Prince Carl Philip to Vogue Scandinavia, Sofia remembered that "he looked very humble." She said, "He had those big, brown, very, very kind eyes."
Sofia admitted to the magazine that she is "very happy" with where she is in life. "I would not change where I am at all. I'm in a very happy place in life. Oh I'm pregnant. I'm doing this Vogue shoot," the Princess said, adding with a laugh, "So maybe I have a 40s crisis. I don't know."
