The Wales children made a surprise appearance on Friday! Prince George , Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis accompanied their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales , to the first day of the 2023 Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford.
“A family day out at the @airtattoo - in the wonderful British summer weather ☔️ Great exploring the C-17 and meeting @usairforce crew,” the Waleses’ Instagram account wrote alongside photos from the family of five’s visit, adding, “And congratulations to the brilliant winners of the Road to RIAT competition on designing a sustainable aircraft for the future of the RAF. ✈️.”
Prince William and Catherine’s children are currently on summer break from their school, Lambrook School, until Sept. 6. The outing on July 14 wasn’t the first time George has attended the air show. The Prince, who turns 10 on July 22, joined his mom and dad at the Royal International Air Tattoo back in 2016.

The Wales family visited the Royal International Air Tattoo on July 14.
The air show raises money for the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT). Prince William, who is Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby, spent three years working as a search and rescue pilot in Anglesey. According to the royal family’s website, the dad of three was known in the RAF as Flight Lieutenant Wales.
Prince George had the chance to raise the rear ramp on a Royal Air Force C17 aircraft while at the show.
The family outing came ahead of George’s 10th birthday. King Charles’ eldest grandchild will enter the double digits on July 22.
A royal wave from Prince Louis!
According to
PEOPLE
, the Waleses toured the aircraft that flew Queen Elizabeth’s body back to London following her passing in Scotland last year.
Catherine, who is Honorary Air Commodore of the Air Cadets, looked characteristically chic for her visit to the air show sporting a pinstripe blazer.
Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte recycled the striped Rachel Riley dress that she wore last year to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. This time around, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ daughter teamed the summer frock with a white cardigan.
Prince Louis and his big sister wore matching shoes to the air show on July 14.
The rain didn’t appear to bother the royals during their family outing.
“We were thrilled to welcome The Prince and Princess of Wales, accompanied by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to #RIAT23 this afternoon!” the Royal International Air Tattoo wrote on Twitter. “The family enjoyed meeting crews and young members of the public in our TechnoZone.”
