Princess Leonor turns 15

These are the first images of Queen Letizia with her husband King Felipe, leaving the Ruber hospital in Madrid after giving birth to Princess Leonor. This was the first public appearance of the current Princess of Asturias, Leonor.

Princess Leonor was baptized in Madrid, in the Palacio de la Zarzuela, on January 14, 2006. It was a familiar and simple ceremony. Her godparents were her paternal grandparents Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, the then kings of Spain. She was baptized with the name of Leonor de Todos los Santos.

Like every year, the Spanish royal family spends their summers at the Marivent Palace in Mallorca. This was Princess Eleanor‘s first summer on the Balearic island. In the photograph we can see her on the yacht Fortuna, accompanied by her mother, Queen Letizia, and her grandmother, Queen Sofia.

For the first time, Princess Leonor, joins the family outting that takes place every year in the Marivent palace, Mallorca. In the photograph she appears with her parents, the kings of Spain Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, their grandparents, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, the infantas Elena and Cristina with their husbands and children.

On the occasion of her first birthday they held a family photo session at the Palacio de la Zarzuela. In the photograph we can see the very happy Spanish royal family in the palace gardens.

On April 29, 2007, Sofía de Borbón, Infanta of Spain, Princess Leonor‘s little sister was born. In the photograph we see King Felipe, entering the Ruber Internacional hospital in Madrid, accompanied by his eldest daughter, the Princess of Asturias.

Infanta Sofía was baptized on May 17, 2007 in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Aravaca, Madrid. Her godparents were Konstantin-Assen of Bulgaria, Prince of Vidin, and her maternal grandmother, Paloma Rocasolano. She was baptized with the name of Sofía de Todos los Santos. In the photograph we can see the Infanta Sofía with her parents, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, and with her grandmother Doña Sofía.

This is one of the first photographs of the Princess of Asturias during a regatta. King Felipe is passionate about the sport and on numerous occasions we have seen him competing and having the support of his family in regattas. Also, true to her Spanish and Menorcan style, the Princess has worn the famous Menorcan shoes since she was little.

This was the first photo in Marivent for the entire Spanish royal family. We can see Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, accompanied by Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia, Infanta Elena with her then husband Jaime de Marichalar, Infanta Cristina and her husband Iñaki Urdangarín and all the cousins.

The Princess of Asturias has spent summers surrounded by her older cousins. In the image she can be seen enjoying with Felipe and Victoria de Marichalar y Borbón, outside the Marivent Palace.

This was the first day of nursery school for Princess Eleanor. She was accompanied by her parents, the kings of Spain, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia.

Princess Leonor and her sister, Infanta Sofía, have been very close since childhood. The sisters are only 16 months apart so they are great friends.

In 2008 she began her studies at Colegio Santa María de los Rosales, a mixed -sexed school for religious education located in Madrid‘s Aravaca neighborhood. As is customary, she was accompanied by her parents, Don Felipe and Doña Sofía.

As children, the sisters were always paired with beautiful Spanish matching fashion sets for children. In the image, both are wearing a flower print dress with a knitted jacket, white tights and camel shoes.

Since childhood, the Princess of Asturias has had an excellent relationship with her younger sister, Infanta Sofía. They have always expressed their affection and admiration in public.

On the occasion of the 40th birthday of the mother of the Princess of Asturias, Queen Letizia, the Spanish royal family starred in a beautiful perch in the gardens of the Palacio de la Zarzuela, the family‘s residence.

Here we can see one of the first Christmas cards signed by Princess Leonor. From what calligraphy experts say, her handwriting describes her as a reserved and somewhat shy person.

Dressed in the school uniform, Princess Leonor celebrated her first communion. She was surrounded by her family. It was a very discreet and familiar event attended by 80 people.

As always, accompanying her sister in the most important moments of her life, in this case the day of her first communion. In the photograph, we can see that at this age Sofia was already taller than her older sister.

One of her favorite hobbies, like her father King Felipe, is skiing. In this photo Princess Leonor appears skiing in Baqueira (Spain) together with her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and together with her sister, Infanta Sofía.

After the abdication of King Juan Carlos II on June 2, 2014, Felipe VI became the new King of Spain and Letizia Ortiz the new Queen. Leonor stopped being infanta to become Princess of Asturias.

On the occasion of the 50th birthday of King Philip VI, Princess Leonor received the necklace of the Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece at the Royal Palace of Madrid. This was the first official act of the Princess. At the delivery, the King pronounced the following words: “You must respect others, their ideas and their beliefs ... you will be permanently guided by the Constitution and you will serve Spain with humility and you will make all the concerns, joys, desires and feelings yours of the Spanish ”. In the photo we can see how Princess Leonor bows to her father, the King of Spain.

On the occasion of her first official act in the delivery of the Golden Fleece, the Princess of Asturias gave her first speech.

Over the years, it is still customary to see the sisters, Sofia and Leonor, enjoy the summer at the Palacio de Marivent in Mallorca.

This is the last official photograph taken of the Spanish Royal Family. It was taken in February 2020. We can see the kings, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía.

How could it be otherwise, European royal families have also been affected by the coronavirus. Spain is one of the most affected countries worldwide. Therefore, Princess Leonor, following the recommended health measures, delivers a speech to the Spanish people using the mask.

Covid-19 forced all Spaniards to remain locked in their homes from March to June. That is why the schools continued the last year remotely. This September, both Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía were able to return to the Santa María de los Rosales school using their masks.
