An engagement ring might be the most important piece of jewelry you’ll ever own — unless you have an accessory that has been passed down through generations. Many people believe that an engagement ring should represent your personality and character in its design, style, and quirks.
If most celebrities are known for is their lavish lifestyles. Recently, we have seen how newly engaged celebs walk around with hugely extravagant platinum diamond rings, but others have gone against tradition with their ring choices.
As part of the new Engagement Ring Rich List study, the personal finance experts at money.co.uk have teamed up with Zack Stone; Engagement Ring Specialist at Jewelers Steven Stone analyzes some of the most iconic and valuable engagement rings that have graced the hands of celebrities.
The unique celebrity engagement rings and how much Zack Stone estimates they are worth today
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost
The Black Widow star, who is currently rumored to be expecting a baby with husband Colin Jost, has accumulated an impressive collection of unique rings during each of her three engagements. Fellow Hollywood actor and first husband Ryan Reynolds presented her with a more traditional round-cut diamond set on a yellow gold band; second husband Romain Dauriac opted for one featuring three round diamonds featured in a large, art deco setting.
While her current husband, SNL writer and cast member Colin Jost, proposed in 2019 with a beautifully unusual ring designed by Taffin’s James Claude Taffin de Givenchy, which Zack estimates to be worth around $443,000. The piece features a huge pear-shaped diamond alongside a light brown diamond of approximately 11 carats near the knuckle. Zack adds that “the feature of an old cut diamond gives the ring a sought-after vintage effect.”
Emma Stone and Dave McCary
In 2019 Oscar-winning Emma Stone got engaged to her now-husband Dave McCary in the same office they’d met three years before. When they met, Stone was guest-hosting SNL, where McCary worked as a segment director. Her ring was designed and created by Japanese jeweler Kataoka and features a large pearl center surrounded by diamonds. Zack estimates the ring is worth approximately $34,600 and comments that “it appears to feature a rare, natural saltwater pearl surrounded by a floral halo of diamonds.”
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
British-born actor Orlando Bloom proposed to global popstar Katy Perry on Valentine’s Day of 2019 after three years of on/off dating. Somewhat fittingly considering the actor’s surname and their baby daughter Daisy, Bloom chose to propose to Perry with a cluster ring resembling the shape of a flower. Zack estimates that the four-carat vivid pink oval-shaped diamond, arranged with surrounding white diamonds, is worth $37,000. He also notes how it’s very similar to the style of engagement ring given to Princess Eugenie by her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez
When Ariana Grande and real estate agent, Dalton Gomez, got engaged after just 11 months of dating, many people believed that it was “too soon.” Despite the outside noise, the couple has tied the knot in May of 2021.
Zack estimates that Grande’s ring is worth approximately $286,000. The jewel is a one-of-a-kind contemporary angled diamond with a pearl on the side from jeweler Jack Solow. It’s rumored that the unique piece holds a massive amount of sentimental value as well as financial and that the pearl incorporated into the ring once belonged to Grande’s late grandfather as part of a tie pin.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk
Many people may have forgotten that before her well-documented 2003 engagement to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, the GOOP founder and Oscar-winning actress was also briefly engaged to heartthrob Brad Pitt back in the mid-nineties.
Her current husband, co-creator of Glee and American Horror Story, Brad Falchuk, proposed back in 2018 with an exceptionally unique and beautiful ring. The piece, which Zack values at $415,000 depending on the quality of the sapphire, features a large blue 12-carat cushion sapphire set in a simple solitaire setting to highlight the stone as the sole focus.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd
Although Kirsten Bell and Dax Shepherd first started dating back in 2007 and engaged three years later, the modern couple refused to tie the knot until 2013, when same-sex couples could do the same. Kristen’s unconventional engagement ring features a brown, emerald-cut diamond set in a platinum band with a decorative pave along the sides and down each side of the shank. More than 11 years after the proposal, Zack notes that while brownstones are very unusual choices for engagement rings, this piece is still valued at approximately $983,000.
