UPDATED JULY 28, 2020 4:43 AM EDT

Mornings can be tedious and, in most cases, that makes embracing the day more difficult. However, it’s been proven that creating a healthy routine to start your mornings helps uplift mood, activates the mind and eliminates the lethargy left behind by those highly-necessary hours of sleep.

What follows is a list of a few of the simple activities you can do before going to bed and after getting up to fill your body with energy and make the rest of your day much more bearable. Believe us! Once you incorporate these activities into your routine, you won’t want to skip any.

1. Have your outfit picked out in advance

We all naturally want to look on point when going to work or school, so spending time the night before putting together the next day’s outfit will save you a great deal of time and stress in the morning.

2. Eat right

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but due to rushed mornings and certain diets, many people choose to skip it and eat sugary or processed foods on the go or simply very little. Try to eat a breakfast consisting of fruit, toast and eggs, or any other combination of protein and carbohydrates—if they’re complex carbs, all the better—to make sure you’re properly nourished and have enough energy all day long.

3. Drink fresh smoothies

Either with your breakfast or after, drink a nutritious smoothie made of fruits or green vegetables—cucumber, celery, Swiss chard, watercress, spinach, etc.—to give your body the vitamins it needs and boost your digestive system.

4. Make a to-do list

If your schedule is overflowing, the best thing to do is make a to-do list with every appointment or activity that day so that you don’t forget anything; medical specialists also posit that keeping a diary is good for your memory.

5. Practice yoga

Fitting a short yoga session in before leaving the house will help you relax, clear your mind and warm up your muscles, eliminating that lethargy that tends to linger the first few hours of the morning.

6. Keep exercising!

This will fill you with energy and improve your health. Doing any type of cardio at dawn, such as running or walking, accelerates your metabolism because daybreak is one of the best times to exercise.

7. Be thankful

Take a moment to be thankful for the new day and think positive thoughts about what’s in store. Thinking positively about the future will provide the focus and good vibes you need to embrace the day.

It’s that easy! Every day can be better than the last if you add these seven activities to your routine.
