APRIL 3, 2020 1:05 PM EDT

The team is back (well, sorta). Season 4 of Netflix’s hit Spanish show Money Heist (aka La Casa de Papel) is back with a vengeance. The show will pick up after season three’s cliffhanger with the tables having been completely turned (something that the producers and show-runners were looking to do). We will find some of our favorite characters in positions that will test them to their core, while others will be making strong plays with effects that will echo for episodes to come.

How does the team bounce back after season three’s cliffhanger?

In an interview with Fuera de Series, the show-runners and producers admitted that they wanted to change the game completely and position the team somewhere new.

Jesús Colmenar explained, “The tables have turned [this season], and we’re going to witness The Professor in what is one of the most emotionally complex moments of his life since the series started. Álex Pina added that viewers will get to witness one of the most “tramatic” moments of the series which will leave the team in “absolute turmoil.”

Keep an eye out for Gandia

In the same interview with Fuera de Series, Alba Flores reveals that fans and viewers should keep an eye out for Gandia (played by José Manuel Poga). “Keep an eye on Gandia… His character will be very important this season,” she began.

Alba also praised the writing and storytelling ability of the series’ showrunners. “It’s truly genius how the writers will tailor a character to seem circumstantial, and then all of a sudden, that character becomes something else. This will happen with several [of this season’s] characters,” she continued.

The Professor goes off-script in season four

Álvaro Morte shared with EFE that the goal of the character was to avenge his brother and make sure that society took notice of that. The actor shared, “...we are in an absolutely corrupt system, and for him it would be a great failure if that message never comes to light.”

“Lisbon is the first serious relationship he has had his whole life, and once he’s gotten the taste of that, he no longer wants to be alone. This is something that complicates things for him because he can’t leave the ‘robbing,’” shared Álvaro.

Rio’s transformation

In an interview with Cinemanía, Miguel Herrán shared, “We find Rio in a position of uncertainty in terms of his feelings. We will get a more troubled and darker version of Rio... It’s going to be a more confused version of Rio, one that feels he is truly alone.”
