At just 31 years old, Julieth Lozano stands as one of Colombia’s prominent voices. This native from Bogotá has gained international recognition as one of the world’s most regarded sopranos. In mid-June this year, she received the Audience Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, one of the most prestigious opera competitions in the world, organized by the English broadcaster BBC.

Lozano made history by becoming the first Colombian to participate in the BBC competition. The soprano paid homage to her Latin heritage and captivated audiences with her performance of the Spanish opera “Sí, yo soy Cecilia Valdés,” composed by the Cuban composer Gonzalo Roig.

Notably, Julieth embarked on her academic journey with a focus on Industrial Engineering, but her passion for music gradually transformed her path. She earned her degree from the Central University of Bogotá and has since honed her musical craft, earning a Master in Performance and Opera from London’s Royal College of Music, with the support of the prestigious Irene Hanson scholarship. In addition to that, she holds the Sybil Tutton Award from Help Musicians UK.

Alongside her studies at prestigious institutions, Julieth received the President’s Award from then-Prince Charles of Wales in 2018. Her talent also shone in 2019 when she was featured on the BBC documentary “Queen Victoria: My Musical Britain,” filmed at Buckingham and Kensington Palaces. Then, in 2022, she won the first prize at the Opera Festival Scotland’s Young Artist Singing Competition. Currently, she graces the stage as a soloist at the National Opera of Wales Cenedlaethol Cymru.
