Bruna Marquezine is a Brazilian actress, born and raised in Duque de Caxias,a city on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. At 28 years old, she has a strong social media presence of over 40 million followers. She’s also managed a career high: she stars in “Blue Beetle,” one of the biggest movies of the year and a unique one at that since its the first of its kind to spotlight Latin stories and characters.
Marquezine started off her career young, when she was eight years old. As a child actress in Brazil, she never thought that crossing over tp Hollywood was a possibility. “I always had a feeling that it could happen, but I grew up listening to people say that it was impossible, that especially if you are from Brazil, you are never going to break through and make it anywhere else,” she said in an interview with Flaunt.
It’s something you don’t allow yourself to fully dream because it’s too big–it’s too far from your reality. Now that I’ve signed with UTA and have agents and publicists here, it’s all so surreal.”
“Blue Beetle” marks Marquezine’s biggest project to date. Over the past couple of years she’s been involved in various Brazilian TV shows and films, but Marquezine is aware of the high pressure that comes from being involved in a superhero franchise and all of the talent that’s attached to these types of projects.
She discussed working with Susan Sarandon and how much she learned by just watching her. “I remember feeling so insecure around her. On one occasion, when we were almost done filming one of my character’s most important scenes, I felt I needed just one more take and asked the director for one more shot. Right after finishing, Susan told me, ‘Wow, girl, that was great.’ She even came to me afterward to compliment me again. All I could say was ‘Really?’ and then started crying.”
We can expect bigger and greater things from her in the near future.
