Issa López is a Mexican producer, writer, and film director known for winning several literary awards, including the National Novel Award granted by Mexico’s Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in 2007.

In 2017, López debuted Tigers Are Not Afraid at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. For the project, she received the Best Horror Director Award. The movie is even a “Certified Fresh” rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

López is developing projects with Guillermo del Toro, Noah Hawley, and Jason Blum and will direct the new season of HBO’s True Detective alongside Barry Jenkins.

Although López is an established novelist and filmmaker in Mexico, the North American market has begun to know her work.
