Before the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial, Camille Vasquez was just an associate at the Orange County-based Brown Rudnick law firm. Once the trial had millions of people, she immediately captivated the world with her fearless and powerful presence in the courtroom. Dubbed the ‘queen of cross-examination,’ she has inspired Latinas with similar aspirations.
Vasquez was born in San Francisco to a Cuban mother and Colombian father. She is a 2006 graduate of the University of Southern California, and she graduated from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles in 2010. She specializes in litigation and arbitration, with a focus on representing plaintiffs in defamation cases.
People were shocked to learn she was just an associate during the trial, but she has since been promoted to partner. Vasquez was HOLA! USA digital cover star in June where she opened up about her newfound fame. “It’s been a surreal experience and, if I’m being honest, a tad overwhelming. And something I wasn’t prepared for. I was just doing my job.”
A child of immigrants, she said her parents were “overwhelmed with excitement and happiness. “They both left their countries. My mom is Cuban. My father is Colombian. To give their daughters — I have a younger sister. We’re 15 months apart. We’re pretty close in age — an opportunity for a better life.”
The fearless lawyer has undoubtedly inspired thousands of young women to always use their voices.
“If I could be an inspiration for other young women, especially Hispanic women and Latinas, then it’s all worth it. At the end of the day, that’s what’s important.”
Now, Camille Vasquez is back on the court with representing another Hollywood star. The Latina lawyer has agreed to defend actress Q’orianka Kilcher , an actress in the popular series Yellowstone.
