YouTube beauty influencer and makeup artist Kay-Lani Martinez grew up her fame thanks to her Viva Glam Kay channel and her detailed, colored, and themed makeup tutorials.
The Puerto Rican beauty always represents the culture, whether partnering with Latina-owned brand Reina Rebelde or sharing makeup inspired by fearless and iconic Latinas such as the late Selena Quintanilla.
The content creator built an Instagram community of over 1 million followers plus a couple hundred thousand more on YouTube. Besides makeup, Martinez also shares skincare and haircare tips on keeping her beautiful complexion and bouncy curls hydrated.
According to the makeup artist, not wearing so much makeup during the coronavirus pandemic also helped her to fall in love with her bare face. “Over a year of barely wearing any makeup & I’m really starting to love it. I’ve always embraced my natural skin, but lately, I’ve just been truly appreciating everything about myself,” she said on Instagram.
“I’m so tired of putting myself under a microscope or giving people the power to dictate what they want to see from me. I still love me a beat face. Don’t confuse my words. And I’ll still be delivering beauty content. But I just feel myself evolving in ways I didn’t know I could. I feel a shift happening. I feel different, but in a positive way.”
The Afro-Latina also uses her platform to highlight social injustices against the Black and Brown communities.
