Alice Braga is a Brazilian actress and producer that is representing the strength and power of Latinas in Hollywood.
Born in 1983, Braga grew up in the city of Sao Pao, Brazil to a family of artists. Braga knew she would be a storyteller as a young girl- it’s in her blood- her mother Ana Maria Braga was an actress turned assistant director to commercials, her father Ninho F. Morales directed TV, and her aunt Sonia Braga is one of the most successful actresses in Brazil. Braga grew up running around sets and fell in love with the lights, camera, and action of it all and knew one day if she wasn’t going to be in front of the camera, she would be behind it, producing like she is today.
She started her career as a young girl in Brazil starring in her first yogurt commercial when she was 8 and Braga pursued film in her teens. In 2002 she was cast in the City of God which was widely acclaimed both in Brazil and in the United States.
Braga is also a climate activist who loves being involved with causes that resonate with her. In 2020, she partnered with Greenpeace Brazil to release a series of videos called “Countdown to Destruction.” The videos explain how some food commodities can lead to the deforestation across the world.
In 2006 Alice made her debut in Hollywood with the movie, Journey to the End of Night and she solidified her place in American film, with an incredible and unforgettable performance appearing opposite Will Smith in I Am Legend in 2007.
Braga has a powerful and real essence that has led her to portray strong survivors and powerful women time and time again. Since 2016 she has starred as “Teresa Mendoza” in Queen of the South and she most recently starred as ‘Sol Soria’ in The Suicide Squad. HOLA! When it comes to her personal life, Braga describes herself as a very laid-back person who thrives on making connections with other humans. She confirmed she is dating fellow Brazilian actress Bianca Comparato in January 2020 and they’ve reportedly been dating for around three years.
