Aymée Nuviola is a Cuban artist with infinite talents. Classically trained pianist, songwriter, singer and actress, Nuviola has cultivated an extensive list of awards, including the Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album (‘A Journey Through Cuban Music’) and in 2018, she received her first Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Album. Fusion (‘Like Ring To Finger’). She has been nominated five times for the Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards.
Nuviola‘s story is as admirable as her talent. She was the first Afro-Latina to lead a Spotify playlist for the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration in 2017 and perform at her first Afro-Latino event at her New York office. He has worked with iconic artists such as Gloria Gaynor, Fania All Stars, Rubén Blades, Chucho Valdés, Irakere, Diego El Cigala, Omara Portuondo, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Nuviola talks about her roots and the influence of Cuban music worldwide.
“Our music has always had Afro elements present, be it guaracha, chachachá, mambo, it is inevitable and it is part of our culture. We are a mixed island. Cuban music has influenced music around the world and, although we are a small island, we have exported more than 33 musical genres. We have a lot to offer.”
Nuviola, born in Havana, Cuba, had the opportunity to play Celia Cruz in the series ‘Celia’ (Telemundo), a story based on the life of the legendary Cuban singer, which was broadcast around the world by Netflix.
Recently, the singer was nominated for best Latin jazz album at the 2020 Grammys with Gonzalo Rubalcaba for the album Viento y Tiempo (Live At Blue Note Tokyo).
