Naomi Campbell doesn’t pay attention to the Met Gala themes. The 54-year-old supermodel, an iconic fixture at the glitzy New York fashion event over the years, has confessed that she has little interest in following the dress code set out for guests.
Naomi's feelings about the Met Gala
In the latest episode of her "Being Naomi" YouTube series, which showed the star preparing for last year’s "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening" Fashion-themed extravaganza, she said:
“I don’t follow themes, sorry. I just flow. I think it’s something to do with ‘Sleeping Beauty’, awakening something. I’m sorry.”
Naomi also revealed in the video that she is unlikely to be attending next week’s Met Gala as she feels “too old” to deal with the stress that the event brings. The model shared that this might be her final attendance.
“This is my last Met. It is my last. I can’t… I’m too old. It’s too much for me, the anxiety. I don’t know what number this is, I think it could be either 20 or 21, can you imagine.”
Family priorities and motherhood
Naomi has two children, a three-year-old daughter and a 22-month-old son, who were born to a surrogate, and explained last year that she wants her offspring to be educated in London just as she was. Speaking to the Evening Standard, she said: “I love London and I want my kids educated here. I loved going to school in London, and I’d like my kids to follow in my footsteps. I haven’t decided where we are going to set up shop, but I hope it’s here. I like the English education system, absolutely. I don’t like the American version of the English education system.”
Naomi has been very protective of her children, but did explain how she has embraced the unpredictable nature of raising kids.
“Motherhood is so much fun. You just don’t know what’s going to happen at any given moment. I feel like I’m reliving my childhood. I just hate leaving home. These days when I travel, I try to make it not longer than 48 hours as it’s too disruptive. Unless I can do a job in and out, then the kids have to come with.”
Her daughter's passion for dancing
Naomi explained that her daughter has inherited her passion for dancing, although the model doesn’t get as much time to practice as she would wish.
“I don’t know about a star, but I definitely wanted to be in theatre or the arts as I loved dancing. Whenever I’m in London I’m always saying I want to go to class. But I never find the time. There’s nothing that smells like a ballet room, the floor, the bar, it’s the freedom of expression of dance that I love so much. My daughter likes to dance too.”
