The 2025 Met Gala is just three months away and from what has been revealed, it is going to be a thought-provoking and powerful evening. For the first time in history, there is a first co-chair lineup of all Black men. There is also an all-Black benefit host committee made of A-list names that will help carry the theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. From the dress code to new celebrity hosts - here's what you need to know.

The Dress Code

The dress code guests will adhere to is "Tailored for You," per Vogue. It's a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation." So we can expect to see a lot of suits and menswear.

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style explores the profound impact Black men have had on fashion over the centuries, with a focus on the Black dandy. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," the exhibition highlights the role of sartorial style in shaping Black identities.

In the 18th century, Black men, often in the face of racial oppression, used fashion as a form of resistance and self-expression. Dandies embraced tailored suits, bold accessories, and sharp grooming, challenging societal expectations and reclaiming a sense of dignity.

“Dandyism can seem frivolous, but it often poses a challenge to or a transcendence of social and cultural hierarchies,” Miller said in a statement, per Vogue. “It asks questions about identity, representation, and mobility in relation to race, class, gender, sexuality, and power. This exhibition explores dandyism as both a pronouncement and a provocation.”

Comprising clothing, photographs, fine art, historical texts, and artifacts, this exhibit is the first Costume Institute show to focus exclusively on menswear since 2003’s Men in Skirts.
