It's estimated that 62% of Americans have a cup of coffee every morning, and Malia Obama seems to be one of them. On October 11, the daughter of former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama was spotted on an early morning coffee run.
Malia was seen at a coffee shop around 7:30 a.m., per GrosbyGroup. She made pajama pants look fashionable by pairing them with a fitted white shirt. The 26-year-old walked back to her car holding her hot cup of joe, ready to start the rest of her day.
As for what Malia's days consist of, she’s been busy in the entertainment industry. Working under the name Malia Ann, she recently directed the music video for Michael Kiwanuka’s single "One And Only," which was released on November 26.
Her directorial debut was in 2023 with the short film The Heart, which she also wrote. The film earned her the Young Spirit Award at the 2024 Deauville Film Festival and was made in collaboration with Donald Glover's production company, Gilga.
Malia landed her first gig as a staff writer on Donald's 2023 TV series Swarm.
In the world of "nepo babies" and the ongoing discourse around their success, Malia's decision to drop "Obama" from her professional name reflects her desire to make it on her own—or at least that’s what her father says. “The challenge for us is letting us give them any help at all,” Barack said on The Pivot podcast. “I mean, they’re very sensitive about this stuff. They’re very stubborn about it.”
When she told him she was dropping the name, he said they’d eventually figure it out. "I was all like, ‘You do know they’ll know who you are,’” Obama recalled. “And she’s all like, ‘You know what? I want them to watch it that first time and not in any way have that association.’ So I think our daughters go out of their way to not try to leverage that.”
