Princess Diana’s influential fashion and style is back and here to stay.

With both ‘The Crown Season 4’ and ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’ trending on Netflix,  Princess Diana ’s influential fashion and style is back and here to stay. When it came to dressing, she favorited some styles as well as colors that she repeated through the years, mastering the art of self image. Here are some of her most iconic fashion statements.

ESCADA PLAID FABRICS

Since the beginning, Princess Diana wore plaid fabrics on jackets, pants, dresses, blazers as a way to honor the British legacy and also Prince Charles . She wore houndstooth and pied de poule fabrics as a way to look smart and chic.

KNITTED COLORFUL SWEATERS

When Diana started dating Prince Charles she had a collection of knitted colorful sweaters that caused a frenzy at the time and still do. Even Zara recently launched a replica of Princess Diana’s red with white sheep for this winter which was instantly sold out!

LADY DI BLACK DRESSES

From her first public appearance with Prince Charles , Princess Diana wore a very revealing black dress (shocking even the Prince) a color which gave her confidence. The Princess was warned that black was meant to be worn only for mourning, as is the royal protocol. The Princess dismissed the warning and the rest is history.

Princess Diana also loved to dress in menswear staples, including suits. She wore this outfit while attending a rock concert by Genesis.

ROCK ’N ROLL PRINCESS

This dress alone could have been inspiration for the Chanel Haute Couture 2020! By dressing their models with tiaras on their foreheads, lots of shiny lamé dresses and sequins, they looked like Rock and Roll Royalty from the 80’s, just like Princess Diana!

The Princess had a very busy international traveling agenda and invested time researching her destination attire to make her hosts feel flattered.

JEWEL TONES - EMERALDS JEWELS AND TURQUOISE DRESS

Princess Diana loved wearing bright jewel tones like emerald green, amethyst purple, sapphire blue, turquoise or ruby red to enhance her complexion. Those colors suited her perfectly and designers including both John Galliano and Gianni Versace made beautiful creations for her.

POWER SHOULDERS - PRINCESS DIANA IN CANADA

Princess Diana wore jackets and suits with the so called “power shoulders” on many occassions. Very popular in the 80’s and 90’s during Margaret Thatcher’s leadership,

these were a key component of dressing with a sense of power. It’s very much in Vogue nowadays!

DRESSED FOR ALL OCCASIONS

And I mean “all”! Not every event was a Gala or a dinner for the Princess. When she went to Angola, Lady Di visited a landmine minefield being cleared by the charity Halo in Huambo. She dressed humbly wearing jeans and a white shirt, a face shield and her Red Cross apron. A woman with a kind heart, Princess Diana was The Queen of Hearts!
