"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" breakout Xochitl Gomez and Rebelde queen Maite Perroni are teaming up for a new original musical film "No Te Olvides" (Don't Forget), and it sounds like the kind of movie that'll make you cry, laugh, and then cry happy tears again.
This feel-everything project comes from writer Nerris Nevarez-Nassiri and is directed by Kimberly McCullough, so expect all the emotional punch and playlist-worthy songs. According to Deadline, production kicks off this fall.
What's 'No Te Olvides' About?
At the story's center is María, played by Gomez, a closeted twenty-something Chicana navigating the messy but beautiful terrain of identity, family, and love. When her grandmother's memory starts slipping due to Alzheimer's, María goes on a mission to fulfill her final wish, to return to her rural Mexican hometown one last time.
There's just one problem: María's mom, Celestina (played by Perroni), isn't on board with the plan.
What follows is a cross-border road trip of three generations of Mexican-American women rediscovering each other and themselves. It's giving "Coco" meets "The Farewell" meets "In the Heights," but make it live-action, Latina-led, and grounded in the nuances of bicultural identity.
The Powerhouse Duo Behind the Leads
Xochitl Gomez has been everywhere lately, and rightfully so. After stealing scenes (and punching through universes) as America Chavez in Marvel's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," she twirled her way into our hearts as the winner of Dancing with the Stars Season 32, taking home the very first Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy with pro Val Chmerkovskiy. Oh, and she's also starring alongside Bill Hader in "The Cat in the Hat," out in 2026.
Meanwhile, Maite Perroni is a literal legend. She's got two Latin Grammy nominations, global acting credits in "Triptych," "Game of Keys," "Dark Desire," and "Herederos Por Accidente," and a record-breaking $130M grossing Rebelde world tour under her belt. In "No Te Olvides," she steps into the emotionally rich role of Celestina, a workaholic mom with her own generational baggage.
Who's Behind the Magic?
This is the first feature from Con Ganas, a new wellness-centered production company led by Tony Estrada, whose credits include "The Mother" and "Menace and Me." Kristina Rivera, whose past work includes "The Mule" and "Sully," is co-producing alongside Estrada. The executive producers are Peter and Fernando Bandera from Bandera Brothers Entertainment.
Between Kimberly McCullough's directing talent, a script rooted in authentic Mexican-American storytelling, and a dream team of Latina icons leading the way, "No Te Olvides" is already shaping up to be a must-watch moment for representation and musical lovers alike.
We don't get nearly enough stories centered on Latinas that dig into the generational layers of culture, identity, queerness, and healing. And even fewer that do it with music, style, and emotional depth. "No Te Olvides" promises all of that, with powerhouse performances and a meaningful message that sticks with you.
It's also just so refreshing to see rising stars like Gomez and long-established icons like Perroni share the screen and the spotlight. They're not just playing characters; they're helping shape the future of Latino storytelling in Hollywood.
