Passionate "Dawson's Creek" fans have been debating the show's most questionable storylines for decades. And now, Joshua Jackson himself has officially weighed in on one of the most bizarre Pacey Witter plotlines.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on March 27, Joshua Jackson revealed the one storyline he can never support. "I don't think Pacey ever needed to be a stockbroker," he said. "I don't really think we needed to go there."
And honestly? He's right. If you're a die-hard "Dawson's Creek" fan, you probably remember Pacey's brief detour into the corporate world during the final season. It was a wild career pivot for the once-rebellious underachiever, and it didn't exactly scream Capeside charm.
Jackson, 46, doubled down on his confusion over the storyline. "I don't know where that came from. I don't know what the point of that was," he admitted. "Didn't really feel like that's something that Pacey would've got up to."
But what really made him cringe? The facial hair that came with it. "I don't think we needed a goatee. Maybe that's it: it's goatee Pacey," he joked. "It doesn't work for me."
The Dawson's Creek Legacy—and the Ultimate Love Triangle
From 1998 to 2003, Jackson played Pacey Witter, the lovable bad boy turned fan-favorite romantic lead. "Dawson's Creek" followed the coming-of-age journey of Pacey, Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), and Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) in the small town of Capeside, Massachusetts. The series also starred Michelle Williams as the troubled but endearing Jen Lindley.
And, of course, no conversation about "Dawson's Creek" is complete without talking about its infamous love triangle. Fans remain divided to this day over whether Joey should have ended up with Dawson or Pacey. But Jackson? He's never wavered on his stance.
When asked if he's ever second-guessed his Team Pacey status, Jackson clarified where he stands. "No. I'm way too petty for that," he quipped. "I'll go to my grave, Team Pacey."
Fans React: "Goatee Pacey Was a Fever Dream"
Unsurprisingly, longtime "Dawson's Creek" fans wasted no time jumping into the conversation. "Goatee Pacey was a fever dream," one fan commented on social media. Another joked, "We all tried to pretend stockbroker Pacey didn't happen, but now Joshua Jackson is forcing us to relive it."
Meanwhile, Team Pacey supporters were thrilled to hear Jackson still firmly stands by the character's final romance. "If Pacey is Team Pacey, then that's all the validation I need," a fan tweeted.
Some 'Dawson's Creek' Plotlines Age Better Than Others
While "Dawson's Creek" remains one of the most beloved teen dramas of all time, even the biggest fans can admit that some storylines haven't aged well. There's plenty to unpack, whether painfully outdated fashion choices or certain questionable plot decisions (cough stockbroker Pacey cough).
But Joshua Jackson's callout of Dawson's Creek's most bizarre career move just made every nostalgic fan feel incredibly seen.
