Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are in early discussions to star in a remake of the 1992 thriller 'Single White Female.' The 'Beetlejuice Beetljuice' star and the 'Bones and All' actress could be sharing the screen in a new project developed by Elizabeth Gabler's 3000 Pictures in collaboration with Sony and HarperCollins Publishers.
The original film follows a woman who, after a breakup, invites a new roommate into her apartment, leading to a dangerously obsessive relationship. The two rising stars are booked and busy, with Taylor attached to co-star Michael B. Jordan in a remake of 'The Thomas Crown Affair.'
Meanwhile, Jenna, who recently made a special appearance at the red carpet premiere of 'Death of A Unicorn,' has a very tight schedule with the upcoming season of 'Wednesday' and the psychological thriller 'Hurry Up Tomorrow,' directed by Trey Edward Shults, which is set for release on May 16, 2025.
In the original Single White Female, Bridget Fonda portrayed Allison, a woman who invites a new roommate, Hedra (played by Jennifer Jason Leigh), into her New York apartment. Details about the upcoming remake have yet to be revealed, including Jenna and Taylor's character in the storyline.
Released by Sony's Columbia Pictures, the 1992 thriller had a budget of $16 million and went on to earn $48 million at the domestic box office. The film was followed by a sequel in 2005, 'Single White Female 2: The Psycho,' starring Kristen Miller.
It seems the new version will have a different twist from the original, and both Jenna and Taylor will play the lead roles, with the upcoming production breaking the mold by not casting two white actresses in the story.
The two stars are without a doubt two of the most coveted actors in the entertainment business, known for their dramatic roles in horror and suspense.
