Melania Trump is one of the most mysterious figures in politics. The First Lady of the United States is serving her second term in the role, and despite publishing a memoir that details her life, career, and relationship with Donald Trump, she remains a source of intrigue. Surprisingly, Melania and Amazon have partnered up for a documentary, the first exploring her life and featuring her approval and collaboration.
Here's all we know about Melania Trump's Amazon documentary:
What is the documentary about?
While the White House and Amazon have been secretive about the project, in a chat with Fox & Friends, Melania explained that the documentary begun to be shot on November, likely covering Trump's run of presidency and historic comeback.
“We started the production in November, and we are shooting right now, so it’s a day-to-day life, what I’m doing, what kind of responsibilities I have,” said Melania.
“It’s day-to-day, from transition team to moving to the White House, packing, establishing my team, the First Lady office, moving into the White House, what it takes to make the residence your home, to hire the people that you need."
According to Prime Video, the project is described as an “unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look at First Lady Melania Trump.”
Why is Melania making a documentary?
It appears like the documentary is an expansion on Melania's memoir, titled "Melania." which came out last year and was one of the best sellers according to various metrics, including the New York Times Best Seller list, Barnes & Noble, and more.
She shared her thoughts on Fox. "My life is incredible. It’s incredibly busy, and I told my agent, you know, ‘I have this idea, so please, you know, go out and make a deal for me,'" she said.
How much is the deal worth?
The deal was lucrative, with Puck News reporting that Amazon paid $40 million for the documentary and a rumored follow-up series. The documentary will be directed by Brett Rattner, marking his first film since he was accused of sexual assault and harassment by various of his collaborators, and is expected to have a short theatrical release in select theaters and will be strreaming on Prime Video shortly after.
"The first lady’s cut is more than 70% of the $40 million, according to people familiar with the matter," reports The Wall Street Journal.
