Fans of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga are describing it as 'Roar vs Applause' all over again. The two fan-favorite singers released their respective singles in August 2013, igniting a notable pop culture moment.
Both tracks were leaked online before their official release dates, leading to strategic adjustments in their launch plans. While Katy released 'Roar' on August 10, Gaga's 'Applause' was released on August 12.
The simultaneous release caused discussion and comparisons between the two musicians, and it was, without a doubt, a big pop culture moment, impacting early leaks and artists' strategies.
Fast forward to 2025, fans are restarting the discourse between the two artists, as they are set to perform on the same day in Mexico City.
Katy is currently touring the world with the Lifetimes Tour. The singer had two sold-out dates in Mexico City, including April 26. Lady Gaga made a surprise announcement yesterday, revealing that she would be performing her long awaited album 'MAYHEM' on the same day, even before the release of the project.
"¡Viva La MAYHEM! We’re coming back. Mexico City. Estadio GNP Seguros. April 26," Gaga wrote on social media. Following the announcement, online users pointed out that some fans immediately started to resell their Katy Perry tickets.
"The CDMX arena has just a little over 22k maximum capacity, whereas Estadio GNP Seguros has about 60k for concerts. So theoretically, Gaga, with 1 show, will play in front of almost as many people as the 3 Katy dates combined," one person wrote, making a comparison between the two shows.
"At best, Katy will only sell a max of 23,000 seats at her smaller arena. Gaga is playing in Mexico City's largest stadium," another fan commented. While the two singers have yet to comment on the situation, online users are already bringing back the 'Roar vs Applause' discussion that started in 2013.
