Millie Bobby Brown knows a thing or two about growing up in the spotlight. After skyrocketing to fame as Eleven in "Stranger Things," she's spent years navigating the pressures of Hollywood. So, when she first expressed interest in playing Britney Spears in a biopic, it made perfect sense—both were teenage superstars living under a microscope.
But now? She's making it clear that the pop icon's story isn't hers to tell.
Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Electric State" on February 24, Brown addressed whether she'd still want to take on the role. "I mean, she is an absolute icon. I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story," she told Access Hollywood. "But that's her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to."
Her comments come two years after she told Drew Barrymore that playing Spears was her "dream role." At the time, she explained that she saw pieces of herself in the singer's journey. "Growing up in the public eye, watching her videos, watching interviews of her when she was young… I see the scramble for words," she said. "And I don't know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way—and hers only."
Spears didn't seem thrilled about the idea. The very next day, she posted a cryptic Instagram message that many took as a direct response to Brown. "I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life… dude, I'm not dead!!!" she wrote.
Since then, Spears has taken charge of her own narrative. Her best-selling memoir "The Woman in Me" is officially being turned into a biopic, with "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu at the helm. She confirmed the project herself, writing on X, "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies… stay tuned."
Millie is Britney Blonde
Millie Bobby Brown debuted a bold bleach blonde hair on the red carpet of the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards with her husband, Jake Bongiovi. Teasing her hair on social media, fans began comparing her new appearance to Britney's iconic 90's look.
Many of her followers wonder if she is trying to get into character, in case the biopic opportunity presents in the near future.
"It’s giving a mix of Britney Spears and Tana Mongeau," a person wrote. Another added, "BRITNEY SPEARS VIBEZ."
As for Brown, she's got plenty on her plate. "The Electric State" hits Netflix on March 14, and "Stranger Things" Season 5 is on the horizon. No Britney biopic for her, but something tells us she's just okay with that.
