Since its debut in 2021, "Only Murders in the Building" has become a must-watch mystery-comedy, and with the show taking home a big win at the 2025 SAG Awards, it's safe to say fans can't get enough. The good news? Season 5 is officially in the works.
While season 4 wrapped in October 2024, Hulu had already renewed the show, and co-creator John Hoffman has hinted at what's coming next. Speaking to Deadline, he teased that the new season will explore a "deeply New York" story, touching on both historical and modern elements of the city.
Oh, and remember Lester? The Arconia's longtime doorman? His death will be a major focus of season 5, alongside a fresh mystery that will keep Mabel, Charles, and Oliver on their toes.
Who's Coming Back for Season 5?
Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short are all set to return as our favorite true-crime podcasters. Also back? Michael Cyril Creighton (Howard), Jackie Hoffman (Uma), and Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Detective Donna Williams).
As for Meryl Streep's Loretta, nothing's confirmed yet, but Hoffman is optimistic. "It's very hard to imagine Loretta not being a part of this television show now," he told TheWrap.
The biggest potential addition is Téa Leoni, who made a surprise cameo in the season 4 finale as Sofia Caccimelio, the wife of a missing man tied to a crime family. Hoffman described her character as "the great tease at the end of the finale," suggesting she'll play a bigger role next season.
When Will Season 5 Premiere?
Production kicks off in March 2025, but there's no official release date yet. In the meantime, all four seasons of "Only Murders in the Building" are streaming on Hulu—plenty of time to rewatch and hunt for clues before the next mystery begins.
A Big Win for 'Only Murders in the Building'
During the 2025 SAG Awards, "Only Murders in the Building" won an award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. After the announcement, Selena Gomez was in total shock. Standing there with her cast, she mouthed, "What?" as the moment's reality sank in.
Walking to the stage alongside Michael Cyril Creighton, Molly Shannon, and Richard Kind, the 32-year-old soon to be married, asked her costars, "Do I have to talk? I can't talk."
Despite her initial fear, Selena delivered a speech that had everyone laughing. "Wait, we never win. This is so weird," she admitted. She thanked everyone involved and shared heartfelt gratitude for the recognition.
"Well, Marty and Steve aren't here because, you know, they don't really care," Selena said. "But I don't know what to say. Thank you to Marty and Steve for helping raise me. I genuinely am just so grateful [to] everybody, the writers. Everyone deserves this, and I take it home for all of us."
Selena hinted at new adventures with a nod to the future, saying, "I'm bringing this back to New York for season five. Thank you so much. I'm so grateful. Thank you, SAG-AFTRA. Thank you to everybody. I love you."
