Gauff prompted the exchange after sharing a celebratory post on her Instagram. She posted various images of herself and her team on the tennis courts in Sydney, posing alongside their trophy and wearing their gold medals.

More images showed them raising the cup and holding onto the USA flag. "United cup champions," Gauff captioned the post, adding various emojis, including the salute, the US flag, and the eagle. She added the hashtag "dig," suggesting that her intentions are for this to be her first win of the tennis season.

Thousands of fans and supporters shared messages, including her mother. “Continue to grow and dig….. Today you had to Dig deep!” Candi wrote.

Other followers sent their encouragement, writing, "USA" and, hilariously, "COCO PUFFS WE RIDE AT DAWN."
