The holiday season officially kicked off Wednesday night as 50,000 multi-colored lights illuminated the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York City. The annual NBC event, "Christmas in Rockefeller Center," was filled with star power, including performances by Kelly Clarkson and Thalía.
Pulling double duty as host and performer, Clarkson seamlessly guided the two-hour broadcast. Alongside her were beloved "Today" anchors Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker, who joined the festivities to keep spirits high.
The night opened with musical magic from a lineup of Grammy winners, Broadway icons, and chart-topping acts. Among the standout moments was an unforgettable performance from Thalía, Mexico's "queen of Latin pop." Promoting her recently released Christmas album "Navidad Melancólica," Thalía first dazzled the crowd with her spirited rendition of "Feliz Navidad."
Donning a glamorous outfit, she effortlessly blended holiday cheer with her signature Latin flair. Later in the evening, Thalía returned for a show-stopping performance of her original track "Nueva Navidad." Her second look—a billowing red coat layered over a sparkling, disco ball-inspired jumpsuit—brought the perfect mix of festivity and glamour, making her one of the night's most memorable performers.
Clarkson also delighted fans by revisiting her beloved 2013 Christmas album with a rendition of "Underneath the Tree." Her powerhouse vocals and the electrifying ambiance left the crowd filled with holiday excitement.
"Kelly Clarkson! Now Christmas can start," Craig Melvin quipped as he and the other "Today" stars joined the stage alongside New York City Mayor Eric Adams and retiring news anchor Chuck Scarborough. Together, they counted down to the tree lighting, unveiling the spectacular glow of 50,000 LED lights and an enormous Swarovski star. Other performances included Jennifer Hudson's soaring vocals, country quartet Little Big Town, and even a special appearance by a world-famous boy band.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting reminded everyone why New York City is the heart of holiday magic, officially ushering in the most wonderful time of the year.
Thalía's Holiday Album
Thalia is mourning the passing of her sister, Ernestina Sodi, but as the show must go on, she released her new album, "Navidad melancólica," dedicating it to Ernestina. "Music is the best cure for the soul, so in honor of my sister, who loves art, and all its manifestations, I will continue with this work," she explained. "Navidad Melancólica" is now available on digital platforms.
The talented Mexican artist drew on her own life experiences as the primary inspiration for the majority of the songs in her latest project. This recording features an exciting mix of six original tracks, each reflecting her unique perspective and emotional journey. Among these is a fresh rendition of the beloved classic "Feliz Navidad," which adds a contemporary twist to the well-known holiday favorite. In addition to the festive classic, the album includes a track titled "Nueva Navidad," which showcases a captivating bachata rhythm.
This song, like the others on the album, highlights the artist's ability to blend traditional elements with modern influences, creating a rich and evocative sound that resonates with listeners. The collection, aptly named "Navidad melancólica," embodies a blend of nostalgia and celebration, inviting audiences to experience the holiday season through her poignant lens.
