Billboard Latin Music Awards 2023: Peso Pluma tops Bad Bunny for most nominations

Telemundo and Billboard have announced the 71 artists who are finalists for the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Global phenomenon and superstar Peso Pluma leads the list with 21 nominations. It is the first time the Mexican regional music singer and songwriter has been nominated at the awards. Pluma, whose real name is Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, also dethrones Bad Bunny. It’s the first time since 2020 that Benito is not leading the nominations.

Although Benito is not leading the nominations, he still has plenty. The Puerto Rican singer is tied with the Texas band Grupo Frontera, with 15 nominations. Latina Powerhouses follow closely with Colombian artist Karol G with 13. Shakira follows closely with 12 nominations. California-based Mexican regional group, Fuerza Regida, also stands out with 12 nominations.

Other artists with multiple nominations include Eslabon Armado (10), Rauw Alejandro (7), Rosalía, Bizarrap, Feid, and Yng Lvcas (6), Ivan Cornejo, Manuel Turizo, and Natanael Cano (4), Becky G, Ozuna, Romeo Santos (3), Aventura, Carin León, Daddy Yankee, Edgar “Edge” Barrera, Grupo Marca Registrada, Junior H, MAG, Maná, Marshmello, Piso 21, Quevedo, Sebastián Yatra, and Yandel (2).

Peso Pluma

Peso Pluma who broke into the scene to become one of the most prominent figures in today’s music scene, secured an impressive 21 nominations. These include Artist of the Year, Composer of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year, and “Top Latin Album” of the Year for “Génesis.” His collaboration on “Ella baila sola” with Eslabon Armado contends for six awards, such as “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year, Global 200 Latin Song of the Year, and Song of the Year, Sales. His joint effort on “La bebe” with Yng Lvcas earned him five nominations, for “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year and Song of the Year, Latin Rhythm.

Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny who is one of the most streamed artists, clinches 15 nominations. These include Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year, and Global 200 Latin Song of the Year for “Tití me preguntó.” He also scored four additional nominations for “Un X100to,” his collaboration with Grupo Frontera, in categories like “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year, and Song of the Year, Streaming.

Grupo Frontera

Mexican-American band Grupo Frontera vies for 15 awards, encompassing Artist of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year, and five nominations for the song “Bebe dame” alongside Fuerza Regida for “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year and Song of the Year, Sales. Their track “Un X100to” with Bad Bunny garners four nominations, including Regional Mexican Song of the Year.

Karol G

Karol G, known as “La Bichota,” shines with 13 nominations. This marks her second consecutive year as the female artist with the most nominations in the awards’ history, achieving 15 in 2022 and 13 this year. She contends in categories like Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, and “Top Latin Album” of the Year for “Mañana será bonito.” Her collaboration with Shakira on “TQG” gathers five nominations, spanning “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year and Song of the Year, Latin Airplay.

Shakira is anticipated to make a significant appearance speaking at the event, and has secured 12 nominations. Among these are the five for the song “TQG,” along with being a finalist for “Hot Latin Songs” Artist of the Year, Female, and “Latin Pop” Artist of the Year, Solo. She also contends for awards like Song of the Year, Latin Airplay for “Monotonía,” and Latin Pop Song of the Year for “BZRP music sessions, vol 53,” a collaboration with Bizarrap that is also in the running for the Song of the Year, Sale.
