This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been announced, presenting us with a wide array of genres and pop culture eras.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates all music, celebrating artists that have left their imprint in the industry. To be eligible for this year’s ballot, the musician’s first single or record must have been released before the year 1998.
“This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” said the chairman of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation John Sykes. “These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.
Ballots containing the nominees will be sent out to voting members in the music industry, who’ll decide who wins the honor.
A Tribe Called Quest
A Tribe Called Quest is one of the most influential hip hop groups ever. Members include Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammed, and Jarobi White.
Kate Bush
Kate Bush is an icon, experiencing a resurgence this past year thanks to the use of her song “Running Up That Hill” in “Stranger Things”.
Sheryl Crow
Sheryl Crow is a country icon, having sold over 50 million albums worldwide.
Missy Elliott
Missy Elliott has been the queen of rap for decades, since her first release in the ‘90s.
Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden are an English band, pioneers of the heavy metal genre.
Joy Division/New Order
Joy Division was made up of Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris. Following the death of Curtis, the remaining band members formed New Order.
Cyndi Lauper
Cyndi Lauper has made some of the world’s most iconic songs, including “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, “True Colors”, and more.
George Michael
George Michael was one of the best-selling musicians of all time, being a part of Wham! and later on, thriving in his solo career.
Willie Nelson
Willie Nelson is a country musician and an activist, known for songs like “Crazy”, “Hello Walls” and his awesome hair.
Rage Against The Machine
