All the Latinos nominated for a 2023 Golden Globe Award

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will distinguish film and television professionals excelling in the industry

On Tuesday, January 10, the long-awaited awards season kicks off with celebrating the eightieth edition of the Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. During the event, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will distinguish film and television professionals excelling in the industry.

In a few days, the industry will honor the actors, directors and artists behind the success of the most applauded series and films. The stars will compete to take home the precious statuette made of zinc, brass, and bronze, which is also covered in 25-carat gold.

In 2023 Latin American talent has come through and features among the nominees in eight of the 27 categories of the award.

Guillermo del Toro, Ana de Armas, Diego Luna, Selena Gomez, Jenna Ortega, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Diego Calva are the Latinos representing the culture on this evening and are among the favorites of being crowned the winners at the ceremony set to be hosted by Jerrod Carmichael.

Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro is one of the most recognized Latino faces at the Golden Globes. After his first nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 2007 for Pan’s Labyrinth, an award that was finally awarded to the film Letters from Iwo Jima.

The Mexican appeared on the nomination lists again in 2018 with no less than seven nominations, of which he took home those for Best Director and Soundtrack for The Shape of Water.

This year, the native of Guadalajara has done it again, placing himself in three categories for his latest film work: Pinocchio. A remake of the classic tale by Carlo Collodi with which the Mexican could repeat his success in the Best Soundtrack category, in addition to being crowned the winner of the quintet in the contest for the Best Animated Film and Original Song award.

Diego Luna

During the 80th edition of the Golden Globes, Diego Luna was nominated for the first time for his participation in Andor, a Disney + original. Recognized for his extensive career as an actor and director, Diego received the congratulations of friends and colleagues for positioning himself in the race for the title of Best Actor in a Drama Series along with other screen greats such as Jeff Bridges, Kevin Costner, Bob Odenkirk, and Adam Scott.

However, just a day later, the actor’s personal sphere darkened with the death of his father, set designer Alejandro Luna.

Selena Gomez

In addition to her nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series for her performance in “Only Murders in the Building,” this project has tested the entrepreneurial talent of the singer, who, in addition to acting participates in the visual projection of the third season of this production that could take the statuette in the category of Best comedy series of the year.

The actress of Mexican heritage will compete in her category alongside Jenna Ortega, Jean Smart, Quinta Brunson, and Kaley Cuoco.

Ana de Armas

She has dedicated more than half of her life to acting. She filmed her first film at 16 and from then to date, the Cuban-Spanish actress has earned a well-deserved place on the screen. This year, Ana earned a Golden Globe nomination for the second time after giving life to the legendary Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.

The big difference is that this time, in addition to being among the five candidates to become Best Actress in a Dramatic Film, the actress will take the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, where she will share the role of the presenter with Jamie Lee Curtis, Quentin Tarantino and Ana Gasteyer.

Jenna Ortega

Like Diego Luna, it is the first time the young actress has been nominated for a Golden Globe award. The actress began her career as part of the cast of Jane The Virgin, where she shared credits with Jaime Camil.

However, the last two months of 2022 marked a before and after her in her career, after her interpretation of Wednesday Addams, in the Netflix’s Wednesday series. It is precisely thanks to this role that Jenna will compete against Selena Gomez for the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Television Series. Since this series premiere, the actress has become a benchmark of style, which people worldwide have replicated.

Diego Calva

The actor is undoubtedly one of the great revelations of Hollywood. The 30-year-old Mexican is part of the luxury cast in the movie Babylon along with Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, two screen legends who have praised the native of Mexico City. His role as Many Torres (Jack Conrad’s assistant, played by Brad Pitt) put him in the crosshairs to become one of the candidates to receive the Best Movie Actor award.

Anya Taylor-Joy

In 2021, the actress captured all eyes as she walked the red carpet at the Golden Globes, parading in a sexy emerald green dress by Dior. Now all eyes are on her, and everyone is looking forward to seeing with which gown she will walk the red carpet.

Anya is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Film category, and everything indicates that she is one of the favorites, along with Margot Robbie, from Babylon and closely followed by Emma Thompson, Lesley Manville, and Michelle Yeoh.
