It’s Hispanic Heritage Month, and while we recognize incredible creatives year-round today, we are highlighting eight Latina comedians that you should follow. Get to know the comedians below, and make sure to check out their content.
Marcella Arguello
Marcella Arguello is a comedian, writer, actor, and “known b***ch,” per her Instagram bio. The stand-up comedian, actress, and writer, is booked and busy, and she’s often performing in a different city every week. The 6’2 funny lady uses her Latinx identity, her take on race and gender, and hilarious stories to deliver a 10/10 set. She hosts a monthly show called “Women Crush” in Los Angeles, and she released her debut album, The Woke Bully in 2019. This year she starred on Fuse TV’s new show We Need To Talk About America, adding another credit to her long resume. You don’t have to see Arguello in person to laugh, she shares a lot of hilarious videos from her show on Instagram and also has an incredible Twitter account.
Danielle Perez
Danielle Perez, who describes herself on Instagram as “fat b**h in a wheelchair,” went viral in 2015 after she won a treadmill on the Price is Right. She went on to receive a new gift from Jimmy Kimmel, but the viral moment helped her continue her journey in the comedy scene. The Afro-Latina has continued to make waves and performs regularly. In May, she performed at the Netflix is a Joke: The Festival, and in July it was revealed she is a part of the ensemble cast in the upcoming film, “Plan B.”
Sasha Merci
Sasha Merci is a second-generation Dominican American comedian, actress, and digital creator. The Bronx native is now based in Los Angeles, and her Instagram sketches are always viral hits. The talented artist was a moderator on HBO Max’s new series Gordita Chronicles and she also started in Sin Raices, which performed at LALIFF in June.
Alexia Del Valle
Alexia Del Valle is one of the funniest creators on TikTok. With over 1.5 million followers on the app, the Puerto Rican from New Jersey is one of the five people to move into the Familia Fuego, an all-Latino TikTok collective living high in the Hollywood Hills.
Joanna Hausmann
Joanna Hausmann is a Venezuelan-American comedian, writer, and actress. She became a star on ‘Flama,’ Univisión’s bilingual digital platform, and her viral videos have more than 70 million views online. She is also the co-host of Hyphenated, along with Jenny Lorenzo. The talented TV writer brings laughs to Disney and HBO Max, and she is also an accredited voice actor.
Jenny Lorenzo
Jenny Lorenzo is a Cuban-American actress, writer, and content creator, known for her YouTube sketches with characters inspired by her Cuban heritage. As one of the best character actresses’ around, her viral videos will impress you as she plays multiple unique and hilarious personas. Her videos have more than 25 million views on YouTube and millions more on her other social networks. Jenny is one of the founders of ‘PeroLike,’ BuzzFeed’s Latino content platform, and a voice actor on Jellystone, Sharkstone, Hamster and Gretel, and more.
Gina Brillon
Gina Brillon shows America her funny side in Season 16 of America’s Got Talent. She finished in the bottom 5 of the top 10, and her career has continued to grow. In August, it was announced she is starring in the upcoming film, “Dashing Through The Snow“ alongside Ludacris, and Lil Rey Howery.
Cristela Alonso
With ABC’s sitcom Cristela, Cristela Alonso is the first Latina woman to create, produce, write, and star in her own US primetime comedy. The actress, writer, and producer I also one of a few Latinos with a Netflix stand-up special, releasing Cristela Alonzo: Lower Classy, in 2014, and Cristela Alonzo: Middle Classy, in 2022.
