From Zoe Saldaña to Salma Hayek: Latinos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The MCU is the biggest franchise on the planet and boasts some of the greatest talents from the Latin Community.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe recently announced phases 5 and 6. For those who don’t speak Marvel language, these two phases lay out the timeline of the upcoming projects that take place within their universe, having TV shows and films scheduled through the year 2025.

While the MCU could use more diversity, Latinos have a history with it, from Zoe Saldana’s work in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” to Tenoch Huerta’s awaited role in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Tenoch Huerta

Tenoch Huerta is playing the villain in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” following in the footsteps of Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, one of the most revered characters in Marvel history. Huerta will be playing Namor, aka the Submariner, and King of Atlantis.

Zoe Saldaña

Zoe Saldaña was one of the first Latinas to star in the MCU. She plays Gamora, one of the members of the “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Benicio del Toro plays The Collector in different MCU projects, primarily in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Infinity War.”

Lupita Nyong’o

The Mexican-Kenyan actress is one of the most important parts of “Black Panther” and will star in its sequel. She plays Nakia.

Michael Peña has starred in a variety of Marvel projects, mainly in the “Ant-Man” series. He plays Luis, one of Ant-Man’s best friends. While he doesn’t have any powers, he can tell stories, something that the films use to their advantage.

Salma Hayek stars in “The Eternals.” She plays Ajak, the leader of their group, and has the powers to heal others.

Rosario Dawson

In the now defunct Marvel Universe in Netflix, Rosario Dawson played the key role of Claire Temple, making appearances in “The Defenders”, “Luke Cage”, “Daredevil”, “Iron Fist”, and “Jessica Jones.”
