‘Stranger Things’ fans are stressed out over the fate of their favorite characters

Someone’s dying, guys.

The conclusion of “Stranger Things 4” is days away. Part 2 will deliver two feature film-length episodes and the final showdown between Vecna (Jaime Campbell Bower) and the show’s heroes, a moment that’s been teased throughout the season. It’s understandably a stressful and exciting time for fans.

“I would be concerned about the characters going into Volume 2, for sure,” said Russ Duffer, one of the showrunners, to Variety. “I hope that that is sort of the sense, because it is a darker season and the kids are no longer kids. So everybody is in danger. And there’s sort of an ominous feeling that things might not go well.” This dangerous vibe was teased in the trailer, with Robin (Maya Hawke) telling Steve (Joe Keery) that things aren’t looking all that good for the team. “I have this terrible feeling it might not work out for us this time,” she says.

While every character is in some form of danger, the internet is desperate to protect their favorites. Here’s why:

Steve Harrington

Steve Harrington is easily one of the show’s most beloved characters. Introduced in season 1 as Nancy’s annoying boyfriend, he’s grown throughout the show’s runtime, developing a friendship with different characters and becoming the kids’ unofficial babysitter. “dear stranger things writers, please please PLEASE do not let Steve Harrington get hurt anymore. he has children to babysit,” tweeted a user.

Sadly, Steve is one of the characters that appears to be at most risk this season, having a near-death encounter with some weird Upside Down creatures that took a bite out of his stomach. The buildup of his relationship with Nancy and the exchange he has with Robin in the trailer could also make his death more impactful. If the writers were to kill off the character, they would deliver a moment that would have major emotional impact while maintaining the core of the show relatively intact.

Robin Buckley

Robin was introduced fairly recently to the show, but she quickly became one of the audience’s favorite characters. Frequently paired with Steve, which lead to Robin’s memorable coming out scene, this season made the wise decision to pair her with Nancy, showcasing the best sides of both characters.

“Let‘s be all honest. Robin can‘t die. She needs a girlfriend first. My girl deserves it,” wrote a Twitter user. “robin buckley can’t die she has to be alive for the realease of buffy the vampire slayer in 1997,” wrote someone else.

Nancy Wheeler

Nancy (Natalia Dyer) is the character that was left in the most perilous position of them all. As Part 1 neared its end, Nancy was lured by Vecna’s spell and had a look at his memories, providing us with his full backstory. Then the season ends, without us not knowing what happened to her.

“I have to say the character growth and development in #StrangerThings has really surprised and delighted me, but none more so than Steve Harrington and Nancy Wheeler. Love, love, love this show,” wrote a user. “steve nancy max and robin beating their death allegations PLEASE I BEG,” wrote someone else.

Literally everyone else

Fans really don’t want anyone to die. “me getting ready for work on July 1st after I just watched all my favorite stranger things characters die,” wrote a user, adding a gif of a little girl crying as she brushes her hair in front of the mirror.

It’s tough being a “Stranger Things” fan. The last two episodes of season 4 premiere tomorrow, July 1st.
