Golden Globes 2022 big winners: West Side Story, Encanto and The Power of The Dog

This year the Golden Globes had a very unusual ceremony, without celebrities in attendance, no media coverage and no viewers, as it was not televised. However the awards still took place, with the official website announcing the winners of the 2022 Golden Globes.

‘West Side Story’ was among the big winners of the night. The remake of the 1961 classic recGeived Best Musical, with Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose being honored for their performances.

Zegler, who secured the role of Snow White in the upcoming live-action film, took to social media to say “I got cast as Maria in West Side Story on 9 January 2019. And I just won a Golden Globe for that same performance, on 9 January 2022. Life is very strange.”

‘The Power of The Dog’ took home the award for Best Drama, Best Director for Jane Campion, and Kodi Smit-McPhee being honored for Best Supporting Drama. The star-studded cast also included Kirsten Dunst and Benedict Cumberbatch, who was nominated for Best Drama Actor, but the award was given to Will Smith for his role in ‘King Richard.’

Disney’s ‘Encanto’ won Best Animated Feature Film, also nominated for Best Original Song for Lin Manuel Miranda’s Dos Oruguitas, but ultimately lost out to the theme song ‘No Time to Die,’ by Billie Eilish for the new James Bond movie.

Nicole Kidman received the award for Best Drama actress for her portrayal of Lucille Ball in ‘Being the Ricardos,’ taking to social media to show her appreciation for the acknowledgement, “Lucille, this is for you and all the other incredible women nominated.”

MJ Rodriguez made history after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV drama, following her fan-favorite role as Blanca in the popular FX show ‘Pose,’ becoming the first trans woman to receive the award.

“Thank you Golden Globes, this is for the LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian [communities], the many multi beautiful colors of the rainbow around the freakin‘ world,” MJ shared in an emotional speech on Instagram Live.
