Keep scrolling to find out everything we know so far!
Iconic pair
Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan are set to lead the cast. The first-announced Garcia took to Instagram to welcome his friend, writing: “So excited to welcome my dear friend, the extraordinary @gloriaestefan to the Father of the Bride family! Ahora sí!”
“I’m so excited & this is going to be so much fun!” she replied with a heart emoji. “Gracias, hermano!”
Here comes the bride...
Adria Arjona will tackle the lead role of the bride. The Puerto Rican performer was previously seen in films like Triple Frontier and 6 Underground. The role was originated by Elizabeth Taylor.
A Disney Writer
The movie is penned by veteran Disney film writer Matt Lopez. He was inspired to reincarnate the classic based on the many epic Cuban weddings he attended.
Director
Gaz Alazraki, who helmed Netflix’s Club de Cuervos, will direct. The feature is being produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B, the same company behind Oscar-nominated drama Minari.
Inspired by the OG
As per Deadline, the movie is said to be inspired more by the original 1950 Spencer Tracey than the popular 90’s Steve Martin (seen here) films. It’s going to lean into the rom-com genre.
