Kaia Gerber has made a new for herself in the entertainment industry, not just in the modeling world but also as she continues to transition into her acting career. The young star is also known for the incredible resemblance she shares with her mom, supermodel Cindy Crawford, and while for other celebrity kids, this could be a disadvantage, Kaia says it has many perks.
The mother-daughter duo share such striking similarities that Kaia is constantly asked about how it feels to enter the entertainment world, following in her mom's footsteps. Now, the pair are sharing her thoughts during a joint interview with Vogue.
Kaia explained how their resemblance comes in handy for beauty decisions. “The nice thing about like looking quite similar to a parent is if I want to know if a hair or makeup look will look good on me, I will look up pictures of my mom,” the young star said.
“Because if it looks good on her, most of the time, I can pull it off as well," she explained. But this is not just a beauty hack, as Kaia has also recreated multiple of her mom's iconic looks from the 90s.
“We recently went to an event, and Kaia found an old Alaïa dress that I had. Nothing makes me happier. If she wants to wear something that I wore 30 years ago, what bigger compliment is that?” Cindy said to the publication.
At the Toronto International Film Festival, Kaia wore a Hervé Léger dress inspired by Cindy’s 1993 Oscars gown, down to the styling. “I'm probably more inspired by you, than you are by me,” Kaia told her mom. “Her style has been pretty dialed in for a while. The older I get, the more I go into your territory, which is classic.”
However, Kaia was not a fan of comparisons when she started her career. “At first she was like, ‘We look nothing alike!’ And I was like, OK. Then finally she figured out that’s not such a terrible thing... The funny thing is, she can imitate me. She's like, 'I know exactly how you do your mouth,'” Cindy said.
Now Kaia says it is a compliment to be compared to her mom. “The biggest compliment is when someone says I act like my mom,” she said to Vogue. “It used to be that I didn’t see it at all, but now I will look at a picture and have to take a moment before realizing which one of us it is," she explained in 2019.
