A Life-Threatening Medical Emergency

According to an official statement shared on her social media, María Becerra was rushed to a clinic in Buenos Aires early Tuesday morning. The cause was an ectopic pregnancy, a serious condition where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in the fallopian tubes, which led to internal bleeding and put her life at risk.

The statement credits her boyfriend, fellow singer J Rei (real name Julián Reininger), for his quick response, which allowed her to receive timely medical attention.

"Mari went through another ectopic pregnancy that resulted in internal bleeding and a life-threatening situation," the statement said. "Thanks to Juli's quick action, the medical team, and their support network, she was treated in time."

María is now stable, recovering, and resting after surgery and a stint in intensive care.

Pressing Pause (for All the Right Reasons)

The statement also confirmed that María is taking a break from all professional and public commitments to focus on her physical and emotional healing. That includes canceling her scheduled appearance at the 2025 Platino Awards, where she was set to perform alongside Pablo Alborán and Prince Royce.

Award organizers expressed their support in a separate statement: "Unfortunately, María Becerra's performance has been canceled due to health reasons. We wish her a swift recovery."

A Painful Pattern

This isn't the first time María has faced this medical emergency. In September 2024, she revealed to her 14+ million Instagram followers that she had to undergo surgery for a previous ectopic pregnancy while preparing for a Latin Grammy event in Buenos Aires.

"It was so unexpected," she wrote at the time. "I felt severe abdominal pain after rehearsing and went to the ER, where we learned it was an ectopic pregnancy with internal bleeding."

Her Dream of Becoming a Mom

Despite these painful experiences, María has openly shared her dream of becoming a mother. In an exclusive interview with ¡HOLA! Américas, she revealed that starting a family is something she's dreamed about since she was a child. "I've always dreamed of being a mom. It's a huge dream for me," she said. "I love the idea of building a family."

She also described her relationship with J Rei as rooted in love and trust. "I'm pretty old school in that sense. I respect open relationships, but they're not for me. We trust each other completely—even when we're apart for months, we come back stronger. No jealousy, just love and good energy."
