Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos don't want this period of their lives to be over. The couple shares three kids and is approaching their youngest son's college graduation. The moment has inspired the parents to reevaluate their priorities and to try their best to prolong their son's education.
Joaquin Consuelos, Ripa and Consuelos' youngest son, is graduating from the University of Michigan in the coming months. The parents aren't ready for their son to grow up just yet. "We keep begging him to go to grad school," said Ripa.
His graduation has also inspired Ripa to look into her own career accomplishments, including reevaluating her college education, which she dropped to pursue acting.
"You know what you should do? Now that he's going to be out, you should go to school and he won't be weirded out by his mom being in class," suggested Consuelos.
Ripa said that the thought of continuing college has been a persistent one throughout her life, and that she even considered studying at the University of Michigan to Joaquin's dismay. She shared some of her topics of interest with the audience: "Maybe psychology, maybe I'd take a writing class," she said.
"I'll teach reverse psychology. I'll be an adjunct professor."
Ripa's college experience
In previous occasions, Ripa has opened up about college and what it meant to her household. In an interview with The New York Times from 2001, she revealed that her parents wanted her to pursue something that was safe in case acting didn't pan out.
''My parents were adamant about college, so I took a few courses and then would audition for everything,'' she said. ''I took things like psychology, things I couldn't get motivated to do.''
Within the year, Ripa had booked a job in "All My Children," the set where she met her future husband and where she worked for 12 years.
