Singer-songwriter Katy Perry was left “grateful” for a sign from her mother and “the heavens” as she geared up to blast off into space on the Blue Origin rocket. The 40-year-old singer-songwriter is part of an all-female crew who headed into space from the West Texas high desert on Monday, April 14.
Katy Perry has been given a double boost ahead of the epic jaunt, after admitting there will “something bigger” guiding her and her fellow space seekers on the journey. The ‘Firework’ hitmaker posted on Instagram: “Today’s reminder that there is something bigger than me guiding my journey. Love, Feather/Tortoise 🪶🐢."
Katy went on to reveal that she received “total confirmation” about the space trip after she spotted the shape of the capsule is in the outline of a feather. This means a lot to the ‘Roar’ hitmaker - because her mother, Pentecostal pastor Mary Perry, often refers to her daughter as “Feather”.
In an Instagram video, Katy explained: “You know that I’m always looking for little confirmations from the heavens, from my guides, from the angels, from my higher self. You know when I ask for it and I am open to it, it’s pretty loud."
“So when I was invited to come on this voyage, I looked up at the capsule, and the capsule, on the very front of it, is the outline in the shape of a feather. And when I saw that, it was like a total confirmation because my mom has always called me Feather.”
If that wasn’t surprising enough for Katy, she learned the name of the capsule she will be travelling in is Tortoise. Upon being told this, Katy admitted an “energetic wave” shot through her body - because her mom also calls her Tortoise. She said: “There’s a lot to digest, and we’re almost finished for the day, and they show us the capsule; we’ve run simulations in a different capsule.
“And they reveal the name of the capsule, and the capsule’s name is Tortoise. A wave - just the most energetic wave- just shot through my body, and I was like, ‘What, is this capsule’s name Tortoise? My mom calls me two nicknames: Feather and Tortoise."
"What are the chances that I’m going to space on a rocket in a capsule with my symbol, the feather called Tortoise?” And my mom calls me Tortoise. I will screenshot my mom’s text messages when she calls me Tortoise.”
While it seems like the two references to her mother could be merely a coincidence, Katy said: “There are no coincidences, and I’m just so grateful for these confirmations and so grateful that I feel like something bigger than me is steering the ship.” Katy also revealed she plans to “sing in space” when she blasts off on the New Shepherd. In a separate video, in which she showed off her personalized seat, she said: “I think I’m going to sing. I’m gonna sing a little bit. I’ve gotta sing in space.”
