Madonna and Elton John have officially put their long-standing feud behind them, marking the end of a public rivalry that began in 2004. The two stars reconciled after decades of public disputes, with their most recent exchange happening when Madonna attended one of the singer's performances on Saturday Night Live (SNL).
Madonna took to social media to share a photo with the talented musician, showing fans that they are appreciative of each other's artistry. The two stars shared a sweet embrace, with Elton wearing an elegant white suit while Madonna looked effortlessly cool in a black oversized jacket.
“We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!” Madonna announced on Instagram, reflecting on how painful it was to admire the singer and not have his friendship. “Over the decades it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist. I didn’t understand it," she revealed.
Madonna went on to explain that when she found out Elton was performing on SNL she decided to go backstage and "confront" him. “When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was, “Forgive Me” and the wall between us fell down. Forgiveness is a powerful tool. Within minutes. We were hugging," she wrote.
Their meeting quickly became a healing moment. "Then he told me had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!" Madonna revealed about their meeting.
The feud began when Elton criticized Madonna for allegedly lip-syncing during a 2004 Q Awards speech. Their rivalry continued after the 2012 Golden Globes when Madonna won Best Original Song over Elton.
However, instead of holding on to past grudges, Madonna now speaks highly of the singer, recalling how his performances inspired her during her youth and helped her embrace being different.
"I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit!" she recalled. "It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music. Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life.
"I had always felt like an outsider growing up and watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different-to stand out- to take the road, less traveled by. In fact, it was essential," Madonna added.
